Multi-Factor Authentication
What You Need to Know
Types of Authenticator Apps and Notifications
At Legacy Secure, we prioritize your security by offering Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to provide an extra layer of protection for your account. MFA ensures that even if someone knows your password, they won’t be able to access your account without a second form of verification.
Device Recommendations
For enhanced security, we advise installing the authenticator app on a different device from the one you use to access your Legacy Secure account. This is particularly important if you share your device with others. For instance, on a shared desktop computer, having the authenticator app installed could allow unauthorized users to authenticate your login. To prevent this, install the authenticator app on a separate device.
You can select any generic authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator for this purpose. These apps will provide you with a code that you will use to complete the MFA setup.
Requirements for Setting Up MFA
To set up MFA, you’ll need:
- Your own Legacy Secure user account and login credentials. Remember, sharing passwords is not recommended.
- An authenticator app installed on a smartphone, device, or computer with an internet connection.
- Access to your Legacy Secure account via a web browser.
Setting Up MFA Without a Smartphone or Tablet
If you need to install an authenticator app on your laptop or desktop computer, choose an appropriate application like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
Using Recovery Codes
Recovery codes are essential if you lose the phone you use for authentication or need to switch devices. Follow these steps to use recovery codes:
- Log in to Legacy Secure using a web browser.
- When prompted for the authentication code, click on the option to use a recovery code.
- Enter one of your recovery codes to gain access to your account.
- Once logged in, navigate to the Additional Security section in your account settings and set up a new authenticator app on your new device.
- Generate new recovery codes after setting up the new device and store them securely.
